Akshay Kumar Confirms He’s Not the Lead in Golmaal 5; Says “Ajay is the Main Hero!.. My Role is Great!”

The Golmaal franchise is synonymous with Ajay Devgn’s iconic Gopal, but the recent announcement of Akshay Kumar joining the fifth installment sent shockwaves through the industry. While fans were buzzing about a potential "clash of the titans" or a dual-lead setup, the Khiladi of Bollywood has come forward to set the record straight with refreshing honesty.

In a recent interview, Akshay Kumar addressed his role in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming laugh riot, Golmaal 5, making it clear that he has no qualms about playing second fiddle to his long-time friend and colleague, Ajay Devgn.

"Ajay is the Main Hero"

When asked about his involvement in the franchise, Akshay was quick to dismiss any rumors of a lead role. "I'm happy that they think I was good enough to be a part of Golmaal. Ajay is the main hero. I'm not playing the main part," the actor stated.

For a superstar of Akshay’s stature, taking a supporting or secondary role in a major franchise might seem like a gamble, but the actor views it differently. He emphasized that the script and the overall impact of the film matter more to him than his screen time.

Zero Insecurity in a Competitive Industry

The Bhool Bhulaiyaa star was questioned if he felt any hesitation about joining a franchise that has been led by a contemporary like Ajay Devgn for nearly two decades. Akshay’s response was a masterclass in professional maturity.

"Mera role badhiya hai (My role is great) in Golmaal, but Ajay's the hero. I've no insecurity. Uski koi zaroorat nahi hai (There is no need for it)," Akshay said. He added that he looks at a film as a whole rather than focusing solely on his character's prominence.

This isn't the first time the duo has shared the screen. From the early days of Suhaag and Insan to the high-octane action of Khakee, Sooryavanshi, and the recent Singham Again, Akshay and Ajay have shared a professional camaraderie that spans over 30 years. Their chemistry on screen and their mutual respect off it is one of the most enduring bonds in B-town.

What’s Next for Akshay?

While Golmaal 5 is one of the most anticipated projects on his slate, Akshay is currently preparing for another massive reunion. He is set to star in Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan. This marks the duo's first collaboration in 16 years (since Khatta Meetha), and the horror-comedy slated for an April 2026 release also stars Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, and the legendary duo of Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav.

In an era where "ego battles" and "screen-time disputes" often dominate headlines, Akshay Kumar’s candidness is a breath of fresh air.
