Akshay Kumar & Priyadarshan Eye More Films Together Ahead of Bhooth Bangla, Haiwaan Release
Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan may have taken 14 years to reunite, but the hit actor-director duo isn’t wasting any more time. According to Variety India, the two are already exploring a new project together even before the release of their upcoming collaborations Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan. After delivering classics like Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Garam Masala in the 2000s, the pair went their separate ways in 2010 post Khatta Meetha. Their reunion with a horror-comedy and a thriller signals that both are keen to rebuild the brand that once ruled the box office.
The update confirms that Akshay and Priyadarshan plan to collaborate more frequently going forward. While Bhooth Bangla, a horror-comedy, is slated to release first, followed by Haiwaan, a new comedy film is already being discussed. The yet-untitled project is said to be produced by Ramesh Taurani’s Tips Films, marking another reunion Priyadarshan and Tips previously delivered Hungama and Malamaal Weekly. Details are currently under wraps, but the speed at which this third film is being lined up shows strong mutual confidence. For Akshay, who’s balancing action, drama, and social films, a return to Priyadarshan’s brand of clean, family-friendly comedy could be a strategic reset.
This is a smart move for both. Akshay’s comic timing with Priyadarshan has historically translated to universal audience pull and long theatrical legs. Films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa and De Dana Dan worked across metros and mass belts, something the actor’s recent slate has struggled with consistently. Priyadarshan, after a few years away from mainstream Hindi cinema, gets a star who understands his rhythm and can deliver box office openings. With Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan setting the stage, a pure comedy under Tips Films gives them a chance to recreate the Hera Pheri style nostalgia that still trends on reels today.
If the Tips Films comedy goes on floors post Haiwaan, Akshay and Priyadarshan could have three back-to-back releases within 18 months, a pace reminiscent of their 2000s run. For fans who grew up on their collaborations, the 14-year gap now looks like an anomaly rather than the norm. The duo reuniting for a comedy also signals they’re playing to their biggest strength. With _Bhooth Bangla_ already carrying strong buzz, expect more announcements soon as the actor-director jodi looks to dominate the genre they once owned.
