Akshay Kumar says Hera Pheri 3 ‘not happening anytime soon’: ‘Bohot saare issues hain’

The long-anticipated third instalment of the Hera Pheri franchise appears to be further delayed, with Akshay Kumar confirming that Hera Pheri 3 is “not happening anytime soon” due to ongoing legal and agreement-related complications.

In a recent interaction, the actor addressed speculation around the film’s status and acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the project.

‘Abhi filhaal toh nahi ban rahi’

Speaking candidly, Akshay Kumar said, “Hera Pheri 3 abhi filhaal toh nahi ban rahi (The film is not happening as of now).”

Reacting to the host’s surprise, he added, “Mujhe khud jhatka laga tha. Koi baat nahi, Welcome bana li. Thoda kuch mantra padna padega ki sab theek ho jaaye. Abhi ek saal toh nahi hai. Uske bohot saare issues hain. Aisa nahi hai ki hum teeno saath nahi hain.”

The actor clarified that the delay is not due to any fallout between the core trio—himself, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty—but rather because of complications behind the scenes.

“There are some things that I cannot speak about on camera. There are agreements that take the project backwards,” he said, hinting at contractual hurdles.

Despite the uncertainty, Akshay remained hopeful about the film’s eventual future. “It will come in its own time. When the time is right, the film will be made. I hope we are not old by that time,” he added.

Legal hurdles stall progress

The delay comes amid an ongoing legal dispute over the rights to the Hera Pheri franchise. A South Indian production house has reportedly approached the Madras High Court, claiming ownership of the intellectual property, challenging producer Firoz Nadiadwala’s rights.

Director Priyadarshan has also acknowledged the situation, stating that efforts are underway to resolve the matter before moving ahead with the film.

Past controversies

The project has faced multiple setbacks over time. At one stage, Paresh Rawal had reportedly exited the film, leading to legal action from Akshay Kumar, who sought damages. The issue, however, was resolved soon after, with the actor withdrawing the case.

What’s next

While Hera Pheri 3 remains in limbo, Akshay Kumar confirmed that he, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty are currently working together on Welcome to the Jungle, keeping the trio’s on-screen collaboration intact for now.

For fans awaiting the return of Raju, Baburao and Shyam, the wait seems set to continue at least for the foreseeable future.
