Akshay Kumar Shares Why He Dislikes the Word Charity Says Helping Others Is a Blessing

Actor Akshay Kumar recently offered a heartfelt perspective on giving back, explaining why he strongly dislikes the word charity. According to the actor, helping someone should not be seen as an act of generosity but rather as a blessing that life has given you.

During a recent episode of the television game show Wheel of Fortune, senior journalist Sonal Kalra shared a touching story that revealed a lesser known side of the actor’s personality.

Kalra, who said she has known Akshay for nearly two decades, spoke about an incident that took place during the early months of the nationwide lockdown in 2020 caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, while the country was already dealing with the crisis of the pandemic, several regions including Bihar and Assam were also battling severe floods.

Recalling the moment, Kalra said she had been discussing the situation with Akshay and expressed concern about how difficult things had become for people in those states. In the middle of the conversation, the actor suddenly asked her if she could help him find the contact number of the Chief Minister’s office.

Through her sources, Kalra managed to arrange the number and passed it on to him. What happened next, she revealed, surprised even her. Within a few hours, a journalist friend called to confirm whether Akshay had donated one crore each to the Chief Minister Relief Funds of Bihar and Assam.

Curious to verify the information, Kalra reached out to Akshay directly. However, she said the actor immediately tried to downplay the gesture.

According to her, Akshay told her that he had indeed transferred the money but insisted that it should not be called a donation.

Explaining his philosophy on stage, the actor said he has never liked the words charity or donation. In his view, when someone helps another person, it is not an act of giving but rather a privilege.

Akshay explained that if life has placed you in a position where you are capable of helping others, it is actually your good fortune. He added that instead of calling it charity, people should see it as an opportunity to serve.

His words resonated strongly with the audience present on the show, drawing an emotional response and applause. The moment offered a rare glimpse into the actor’s personal beliefs about kindness and responsibility.

Over the years, Akshay Kumar has quietly supported several relief efforts and social causes, often choosing to keep such contributions away from the spotlight. His message on the show once again highlighted a simple yet powerful idea that helping others is not charity, but a chance to do something meaningful.
