Set to go on floors in January 2026, the much-anticipated film will hit theatres on December 24, 2026  promising a thrilling mix of horror, humour, and heart.

Aneet Padda’s journey in Bollywood has been nothing short of remarkable. From her charming debut in Saiyaara to now leading a major Maddock franchise, she’s quickly emerging as one of the most exciting new talents in the industry.

In Shakti Shalini, Aneet steps into a character that blends supernatural chaos with Maddock’s signature comic flair  a perfect fit for the ever-expanding Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, which has given audiences hits like Stree, Roohi, Bhediya, and Munjya.

Interestingly, Aneet wasn’t the original choice for the role. She replaced Kiara Advani, who was initially approached for the film.

Director-producer Amar Kaushik, the creative mind behind the MHCU, revealed how Aneet came on board:

“When we were finalising the script, we realised the part needed a younger energy. Around that time, we watched Saiyaara and were impressed by Aneet’s effortless screen presence. She completely fit the character we had in mind. She loved the story and immediately came on board,” Amar shared.

That decision has turned heads, as fans are now eager to see what fresh spark Aneet brings to the genre.

Shakti Shalini: The Only MHCU Release in 2026

Unlike recent years where Maddock dropped back-to-back releases, Shakti Shalini will be the only MHCU film in 2026. Amar Kaushik says it’s a deliberate choice to keep the universe exciting without overwhelming audiences.

“We don’t want to create an overdose of horror-comedy. Each film in this universe should feel special. So, as of now, Shakti Shalini is the only MHCU release planned for 2026,” he confirmed.

While the announcement teaser created quite a buzz, it kept one major detail under wraps  the director’s name. Industry talk suggests either Aditya Sarpotdar (Munjya) or Amar Kaushik himself might take the helm, but an official confirmation is awaited.

What to Expect from the Film

Plot details are tightly guarded, but insiders describe Shakti Shalini as a film that combines “strong female energy, folklore-inspired horror, and sharp humour.” If that’s true, it could take the MHCU in a refreshing new direction.

Amar Kaushik, who has been instrumental in shaping the universe, believes the genre’s success lies in finding balance:

“Making horror is not that hard — the tropes are familiar. The real challenge is in making people laugh while they’re scared. That’s the soul of the Maddock universe,” he explained.
