“Asal me woh bahut hi sanskari bache hain”: Arun Govil Backs Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama

Arun Govil, the iconic actor who played Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar's 1987 TV series Ramayan, has expressed his confidence in Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of the deity in Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming film Ramayana. Govil praised Ranbir, calling him a "cultured kid" with a strong moral upbringing, and believes he will do justice to the role.

The first look of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama was unveiled recently, and while some praised his calm demeanor and regal look, others were skeptical about his take on the iconic character. However, Arun Govil's endorsement carries significant weight, given his association with the character. Govil emphasized that playing a divine figure like Lord Rama requires more than just acting skills, but also a good and pure soul.

Govil, who is also part of the film as King Dasharatha, praised the efforts of the director and cast, stating that comparisons between portrayals of Lord Ram across generations are unfair. He believes that each actor brings their own interpretation, shaped by the times, storytelling style, and cinematic vision.

The film, which boasts an impressive cast, including Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, is expected to be a grand cinematic spectacle. With music composed by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, Ramayana is set to redefine Indian cinema. The film's first part is scheduled to release on Diwali 2026, followed by the second part on Diwali 2027.
