Awarapan 2 Locks Independence Day 2026: Emraan Hashmi Returns as Shivam
The nostalgia wave in Bollywood just got stronger. One of the most awaited sequels of recent times, Awarapan 2, has officially shifted its release date and it’s aiming for one of the biggest box office windows of the year.
After earlier plans to release in April 2026, the makers have now locked Independence Day weekend 2026 as the final release window. The decision comes as the film is still under production, with shooting expected to wrap by the end of April, followed by post-production work. (Bollywood Hungama)
This strategic move places Awarapan 2 in a prime festive corridor historically known for delivering massive box office numbers.
At the heart of the hype is Emraan Hashmi, who reprises his iconic role as Shivam, a character that gained cult status after the 2007 original. The sequel continues the legacy of Awarapan, a film remembered not just for its emotional storytelling but also for its timeless music. Over the years, the film has built a loyal fanbase, turning its sequel into a high-stakes nostalgia-driven project.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 is being described as an “intense musical love story”, blending romance, drama, and action.
Adding to the excitement, the film reportedly recreates two songs from the original album, tapping directly into audience nostalgia - something that has proven to be a major box office driver in recent years.
The film also stars Disha Patani in a leading role, expanding the franchise’s appeal to a younger audience.
