Batwara 1947 Day 3 Box Office Collection
Batwara 1947 has ended its first weekend on a poor note. Early estimates for Day 3 Sunday suggest the Sunny Deol starrer will collect around 7 crore in India. This is an almost 80 percent drop from Day 2, when the film had benefited from the Independence Day holiday and posted its best single day so far.
The morning shows opened very low with occupancy around 10 percent in multiplexes. Mass centers also failed to pick up through the day. Spot booking remained weak and there were limited walk-ins. After the spike on Friday, the film has struggled to retain audiences and most footfalls shifted to the other big release of the weekend.
The sharp fall on Sunday has brought down the overall weekend total. With Day 1, the holiday boost on Day 2, and today's estimated 7 crore, Batwara 1947 is likely to end its four day extended weekend around 24 crore net. The Day 2 growth gave some hope, but the inability to hold on Day 3 has kept the numbers modest.
The clash with Awarapan 2 has also played a big role. The Emraan Hashmi thriller took the majority of screens and shows, leaving Batwara 1947 with limited playing space. Single screens in UP, Bihar and Rajasthan that showed some traction on Friday could not sustain the momentum into the weekend, and metro multiplexes remained dull throughout Sunday.
Overall, Batwara 1947 has had a mixed Independence Day run. The patriotic theme helped on the national holiday, but the weekend ends with a big drop and a 24 crore total. From Monday onwards the film will need strong word of mouth and support in smaller centers to avoid a further slide and stay afloat in the weekdays.
