Border 2 - Day 01 Box Office Collection: Strong Start Despite Non-Holiday Release

Border 2 opens big at the box office with over 32 crore nett on Day 1. Strong mass response and rising spot bookings point towards a huge weekend.

Border 2 has taken a strong opening at the box office and has clearly announced itself as one of the biggest openers of the 2025–2026 period. On a normal working Friday, the film managed to cross the 30 crore nett mark, which itself is a big achievement in today’s market. The big question now is not whether the opening is good, but how far it can go from here.

The benchmark remains Gadar 2, which opened at around 40 crore nett. That is a very high bar, but even a figure 10 to 15 percent lower would still mean an outstanding result for Border 2. Considering the conditions and release day, the film has already set a solid foundation.

The film has performed exceptionally well in North India. Circuits like Delhi, UP, Rajasthan, Haryana and Bihar have shown excellent traction, especially in single screens. Some iconic theatres in Delhi, Lucknow and Agra opened to near full houses, while Jaipur’s Rajmandir also recorded expectedly strong turnout. Smaller centres have surprised positively and are showing results far better than recent releases after Pushpa 2, including Sikandar and War 2.

Mumbai and Gujarat are holding well, though Gujarat could have done slightly better. The biggest surprise has been West Bengal, where collections are stronger than expected, helped partly by a minor local holiday. The South, however, remains the weaker zone for the film, which was largely anticipated given the genre and appeal.

There has been some negativity around the film on digital platforms, particularly around the teaser and casting choices. But the ground reality tells a very different story. If the teaser or content had genuinely failed to connect, this kind of opening would not have been possible. The gap between social media noise and actual audience response is once again clearly visible.

The first impressions on the ground are largely positive. The music is working well with the film’s narrative, and while there is some discussion around VFX quality, this has become a common issue across most big films today. Border 2 is driven more by emotion and patriotism than visual spectacle, and that emotional connect is its biggest strength.

According to official producer figures, Border 2 has recorded a Day 1 nett collection of 32.10 crore, making it the biggest opening of 2026 so far and matching the highest opening of 2025. This has happened despite heavy rainfall affecting business in parts of North India, which makes the result even more impressive.

Coming to Saturday, advances on major national chains are similar to Friday, but the real difference is visible in spot bookings. On-ground bookings are much stronger than yesterday, especially in mass belts and single screens. With word of mouth kicking in, Border 2 is now targeting a 40 crore plus nett collection today, which would mark a strong jump.

Overall, this is a solid opening, especially after Dhurandhar, and the film is well placed for big growth over the weekend. With Sunday and the Republic Day holiday coming up, Border 2 has every chance to climb much higher and turn this strong start into a big extended weekend total.
