Drishyam: The Conclusion is just two days away from its theatrical release, and Ajay Devgn has now watched the completed film. The actor has shared a strong personal reaction, saying the third instalment has surpassed Drishyam 2.
Speaking at FICCI Frames 2026, Ajay Devgn and JioStar’s Alok Jain discussed the much-awaited final chapter of the Drishyam franchise. Ajay revealed that he watched the film only a day before the event and admitted that the team is keeping its fingers crossed ahead of release.
“We are keeping fingers crossed. You’ll have to wait and watch to find out if Vijay Salgaonkar can beat them or they beat Vijay Salgaonkar.”
Ajay also explained why the franchise is coming to an end with Drishyam: The Conclusion. According to him, writing a film like Drishyam is extremely difficult, and the team felt that the story had reached the right point to conclude.
“The series also concludes with this film because it is very difficult to write a film like Drishyam. We want to end it on a high. We all felt that the way the script has shaped up and the film has shaped up, I think we should put a stop right now.”
Ajay Devgn Says Drishyam 3 Beats Drishyam 2
The biggest takeaway from Ajay Devgn's appearance came when he revealed his personal reaction after watching the final cut.
“I saw the film yesterday. My personal opinion is that it beats Drishyam 2 (2022). So, fingers crossed!”
The statement is particularly significant considering the massive response to Drishyam 2, which turned Vijay Salgaonkar into one of the most recognisable characters in the franchise.
However, Ajay has made it clear that this is his personal opinion, with the final word ultimately belonging to audiences once the film opens in cinemas.
“Sequels Don’t Work; The Characters Work”
Ajay Devgn also spoke about what makes a franchise successful and why simply making another sequel does not guarantee audience interest.
“I think sequels don’t work; the characters work.”
He went on to point towards franchises such as Golmaal, Singham and Drishyam, explaining that audiences continue to return because of characters they have become emotionally invested in.
“Pick up any sequel – Golmaal or Singham or Drishyam – its Vijay Salgaonkar or Bajirao Singham or Gopal that stay with the audience.”
Ajay further explained that a sequel should be driven by the audience's connection with its characters rather than being made simply because the previous film succeeded.
“When the audiences start investing in characters is when you should make a sequel. You can’t just make a sequel because you made a great film. The audiences have to love the character.”
Drishyam 3 Will Begin With A Prologue
Ajay Devgn also revealed an important detail about the structure of Drishyam: The Conclusion.
The film will feature a prologue, but Ajay made it clear that the third instalment remains closely connected to the events of Drishyam 2.
“In our country, I don’t remember any sequel where the film has continued from where it has ended. So, if you have not seen part 2, you won’t understand part 3. Though we have shown a prologue, you might still miss something.”
This makes Drishyam: The Conclusion a direct continuation of Vijay Salgaonkar's story rather than a completely standalone chapter.
