Hera Pheri 3 Faces Legal Trouble: Vijay Kumar Accuses Firoz Nadiadwala of Delaying Proceedings
The much-anticipated Hera Pheri 3, starring Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty, has landed in fresh controversy as a legal dispute over the franchise rights intensifies.
Producer Vijay Kumar Speaks Out
Amid the ongoing legal battle, producer Vijay Kumar has alleged that Firoz Nadiadwala is deliberately attempting to delay court proceedings.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Vijay Kumar claimed that his company holds the complete rights to the Hera Pheri franchise. He further alleged that Nadiadwala exceeded his permissions by making sequels without proper authorization.
“We have the total rights for Hera Pheri franchise clean and clear. He was only given a one-time remake right for the Hindi version. However, he went ahead and made a second film without our consent,” Vijay stated.
He added that legal action became necessary when Nadiadwala proceeded with plans for a third installment and allegedly attempted to transfer rights to a third party.
Legal Dispute Over Copyright Ownership
The dispute stems from claims by Seven Arts International Limited, which asserts that Nadiadwala was authorized only to produce the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking.
That remake became the iconic Hera Pheri, directed by Priyadarshan. The film gained cult status for its comedy and memorable characters.
The sequel, Phir Hera Pheri, was directed by Neeraj Vora.
Earlier this year, the Madras High Court also questioned whether Hera Pheri 3 is currently being produced, amid conflicting claims over ownership.
What’s Happening With Hera Pheri 3?
Despite the legal complications, Hera Pheri 3 has been officially announced, with the original trio expected to reprise their roles.
Recently, Paresh Rawal downplayed the controversy, calling it a “technical issue” between the producer and actor. He clarified that the matter does not directly involve him and indicated that filming will begin once the dispute is resolved.
What Lies Ahead
Vijay Kumar has expressed confidence in winning the case, stating that the court has already made its position clear regarding the rights. However, he also mentioned that any decision to sell or transfer the franchise rights will only be considered after the legal matter is fully settled.
For now, the future of Hera Pheri 3 remains uncertain as the legal battle continues to unfold.
