‘I Don’t Want To Do Item Numbers’: Kangana Ranaut Recalls Turning Down Bhansali’s Ram-Leela Song !

Kangana Ranaut has shared a lesser-known moment from her early career, revealing that she once declined an offer from acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali to feature in a song in his film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela.

Speaking about the incident, Kangana said Bhansali had personally suggested that she take up the song, believing it would suit her. However, she chose to pass on the opportunity, making it clear that she wasn’t inclined towards doing item numbers at the time. Her refusal, she admitted, didn’t particularly impress the filmmaker.

The song in question was later performed by Priyanka Chopra and went on to become one of the most talked-about highlights of the film. With its striking visuals and high-energy choreography, the track turned into a chartbuster and remains memorable even today.

Kangana also reflected on her first interaction with Bhansali, which happened during her struggling days in the industry. She recalled being encouraged by Salman Khan to meet the director, who saw potential in her at a very early stage. During their meeting, Bhansali reportedly studied her photographs closely and remarked on how different she looked in each one, leaving her both curious and intrigued about his observation.

Released in 2013, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela starred Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in lead roles and emerged as a major success at the box office. Over the years, the film has built a strong recall value for its music, performances, and Bhansali’s signature visual style.

Kangana’s latest revelation once again highlights how different choices behind the scenes can shape the legacy of iconic cinematic moments.
