Kara North America Box Office Update : Movie Opens Poor $34K From 108 Locations

Dhanush’s Kara has crashed on Day 1 in North America. The film managed just $34K from 108 locations for its premieres + Day 1 total. For a Dhanush-led film, the number is shockingly low. Trade expected at least $150K-$200K start given his overseas pull post The Gray Man, Kara has missed the mark completely.

The 108-location release is wide for a Tamil film, which makes the $34K gross even worse. That’s a poor $314 per location average. Advance sales were weak and walk-ins didn’t show up. Lack of buzz, minimal promotions in USA, and mixed talk from early premieres hurt the film. Dhanush’s last Vaathi/SIR had done $250K+ Day 1 in NA. Kara isn’t even 15% of that.

This opening puts Kara in the disaster zone for North America. The film needed a strong start to recover costs, but $34K means it won’t cross even $100K lifetime. Overseas circuits like UK, UAE, and Australia are also trending low. Without a miracle word-of-mouth turnaround, Kara will be Dhanush’s weakest overseas opener in years. The actor’s Hollywood crossover hasn’t translated to box office here.

For Dhanush, Kara is a rare misfire in North America. The actor usually commands solid numbers, but this one has no takers. Trade is calling it “very low opening” and “washout start”. Unless Saturday jumps 300%, the film is done. All eyes on India numbers now, but the NA debacle is sealed. Kara joins the list of 2026’s big overseas disappointments.
