Karan Johar's Dharma Productions Spells Horror Magic, Revitalizing the Genre with Three Frightful Films

Dharma Productions is betting big on horror, with at least three films in development for 2026-27 release. One of the projects is a two-heroine horror thriller directed by Ashish R. Shukla, starring Sini Shetty and Reem Shaikh, which has already been shot in a contained setting over 35 days. The film's casting hasn't been officially confirmed, but it's expected to be a thrilling ride. Ashish R. Shukla's previous works, "Undekhi" and "Bahut Hua Sammaan", have showcased his ability to craft engaging stories, and this project is likely to follow suit.

Another project is a slasher film starring Aditya Roy Kapur, blending horror elements with satire, absurdity, and dark humor. Collin D'Cunha, known for his work on "Call Me Bae", is making his feature directorial debut with this project, which is set to go on floors in May 2026. This marks Aditya Roy Kapur's third collaboration with Karan Johar, after "Ok Jaanu" and "Kalank". The film's unique blend of genres is expected to appeal to a wide audience.

Dharma Productions is also working on the Hindi remake of the Odia horror thriller "Bou Buttu Bhuta", which was a massive success at the box office. The remake is currently in the scripting stage, with plans to start filming by the end of the year. The original film is based on rural black magic folklore, and the remake is expected to bring a fresh take on the genre. With this project, Dharma Productions is looking to tap into the growing demand for regional horror stories.

With these projects, Dharma Productions is making a bold move into the horror genre. If executed well, they could revitalize the genre at the box office.
