Michael Jackson Biopic Premiere in Berlin Draws Thousands of Fans Ahead of Release

Michael Jackson Biopic Premiere Draws Thousands of Fans to Berlin Ahead of Global Release

Thousands of fans of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, gathered in Berlin on Friday as the much-anticipated biopic Michael kicked off its grand premiere celebrations.

The event marked the beginning of a weekend filled with tributes, activities, and fan celebrations, highlighting the enduring global appeal of one of music’s most iconic figures.

Fans Travel Across the World

Fans travelled thousands of miles to witness the premiere, turning the German capital into a hub of excitement. Despite limited access to the screening, the turnout reflected the massive anticipation surrounding the film.

Only around 4,000 fans secured seats through prize draws for the premiere screening, while many others participated in city-wide celebrations including exhibitions, themed parties, and panel discussions featuring members of the film’s crew.

Among the attendees was Andy Escobar, a fan from the United States, who shared that his passion for Jackson earned him the nickname “MJ” during his school years. Several fans also voiced continued support for the late star, despite longstanding controversies surrounding his life.

A Film Backed by High Expectations

The biopic Michael stars Jaafar Jackson, the late icon’s nephew, in the lead role. The film is already being projected as one of the highest-grossing music biopics ever made.

Backed by Lionsgate, the film is reportedly targeting around $700 million at the global box office — a figure that could place it among the biggest successes in the genre, alongside Bohemian Rhapsody, which grossed over $900 million worldwide.

Controversies and Creative Changes

While the film celebrates Jackson’s life and legacy, it also arrives amid ongoing discussions around allegations that surrounded the singer during his lifetime.

Jackson, who passed away in 2009 at the age of 50, faced multiple accusations of child sexual abuse but was acquitted in a high-profile 2005 trial. He was never convicted in any criminal or civil court.

Reports suggest that Michael initially intended to explore the impact of these allegations. However, significant portions of the film were reportedly removed and rewritten due to legal constraints tied to prior settlements, leading to a delay in its release.

Release Timeline Shifted

Originally scheduled for release in April 2025, the film’s timeline was pushed back following these changes. The Berlin premiere now serves as the official launchpad for its global rollout later this month.

With massive fan support, strong curiosity, and global attention, Michael is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about film releases of the year.
