SpiderMan Brand New Day Smashes Records With 62 Crore Indiawide Opening
SpiderMan Brand New Day has opened to historic numbers in India. The film released today on around 18K shows across the country and collected an estimated 62 crore on Day 1 Indiawide. The massive show count and packed houses from morning shows itself set the tone for a record-breaking run. Fans queued up for midnight and early morning shows, and multiplexes reported 90 percent plus occupancy in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai.
The opening has broken the previous benchmark for superhero films in India. With 62 crore on day one, SpiderMan Brand New Day has recorded the all time biggest opening for any Avengers movie and MCU film in the country. Advance bookings were strong and spot bookings added more fuel on Friday. English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions all contributed well. The Hindi dubbed version saw massive traction in mass circuits like UP, Bihar, Rajasthan and Central India. Tamil Nadu and Kerala also reported houseful shows. IMAX and 4DX screens were sold out across the weekend. Trade is now expecting a record weekend for the film. With such a big start, Saturday and Sunday should see further growth and the three day total could go past 180 crore easily. All eyes will now be on Monday. The Monday hold will give a clear idea about the lifetime potential of SpiderMan Brand New Day. If it manages to stay above 15 to 18 crore on Monday, a 400 crore plus India lifetime looks very much on the cards.
SpiderMan Brand New Day has given the Indian box office its biggest superhero start ever. The combination of brand value, holiday advantage and positive word of mouth has worked perfectly. With 18K shows and no major competition, the film is all set to dominate the next two weeks. If the Monday numbers hold well, it could end up as one of the highest grossing Hollywood films in India and reset the bar for MCU releases going forward.
