SS Rajamouli's Varanasi: A Ram Navami 2027 Release Awaits

SS Rajamouli is targeting a Ram Navami 2027 release for his upcoming film Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu. The film promises to be a globetrotting action adventure with mythological undertones, drawing inspiration from the Ramayana. Mahesh Babu will play the lead role of Rudhra, an explorer inspired by Hanuman, while Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran are also part of the cast.

The film's production began in February 2025, with locations including Hyderabad, Tanzania, Kenya, and Odisha. Varanasi is being shot in IMAX format, making it the first Indian film to feature 1.43:1 IMAX ratio sequences. The budget is estimated to be around ₹1,300 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.

The story spans continents and eras, exploring an asteroid strike in Varanasi and a mysterious saviour's mission to prevent a global catastrophe, blending mythology, fantasy, and action. Mahesh Babu's character, Rudhra, is expected to be a dual-layered role, potentially involving time travel and playing Lord Ram in a parallel timeline.

With its grand scale and talented cast, Varanasi is highly anticipated by fans and critics alike. The film's first look was unveiled at the GlobeTrotter event in November 2025, showcasing Mahesh Babu's intense character.
