Thamma And Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Open Well At The Box Office With 36 Crore Combined — Can They Turn The Festive Week Into A Blockbuster Run?
Diwali has always been the most exciting time for the Bollywood box office, and this year was no exception. The 2025 festive clash between Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat drew strong attention from audiences and trade experts alike. While the opening numbers may not have matched last year’s historic Diwali clash, they have still exceeded early expectations and set a solid base for the extended weekend ahead.
The Opening Day Report
According to early etimates, Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat have collectively earned around 35 crore on their opening day. While this is below last year’s massive Diwali opening total of 80.30 crore (from Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3), it is still a very good start considering the pre-release expectations and star power involved.
Before release, many trade experts predicted Thamma would open around 20 crore and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat at 6 to 7 crore. The final figures have comfortably crossed those estimates, making it a promising beginning for both films.
To put it in context, this year’s combined total is lower than the first day collection of Singham Again alone, which opened at 43.70 crore, and also below Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3- 36.60 crore. But given the difference in genre, scale and star pull, these numbers are still considered a strong start for both films.
Audience And Critical Response
Thamma has clearly taken the lead in terms of word of mouth. Belonging to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, home to successful films like Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. Film has received highly positive reviews from both critics and audiences. It’s connecting strongly with family audiences, children and youth, which has given it a wide appeal across metros as well as tier-2 cities.
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, meanwhile, has turned out to be a youth-driven romantic drama that’s performing particularly well in single screens and mass centers. Its music, chemistry and emotional highs are striking a chord with younger audiences and the heartland crowd, helping it maintain steady occupancy through the day.
The 551 Crore Challenge Looks Impossible
Last year’s Diwali clash set a sky-high benchmark, with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 collecting 283.30 crore and Singham Again ending its run at 268.35 crore. A combined total of 551.65 crore.
Given the current trend, it now looks impossible for Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat to beat that lifetime record. Their start is significantly lower and while both films are expected to hold well over the extended Diwali period, surpassing last year’s total is out of reach.
Strong Word Of Mouth And Extended Weekend Advantage
The positive buzz around Thamma, the universe connection of the Maddock brand and the energetic youth appeal of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat give both films a strong chance to sustain well over the next few days. With a six-day extended Diwali weekend, both movies can show excellent growth if the positive word of mouth continues to build.
CineInfinity experts expect their combined lifetime collection to land in the range of 300 to 350 crore, which would still make this Diwali a successful one for the industry. Both films have the potential to become superhits if they maintain steady momentum through the week.
CineInfinity Insights
This Diwali once again proved that universe connection, family appeal, and youth energy can bring audiences to theatres even without massive superstar presence. Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat may not have broken last year’s records, but they’ve delivered solid openings and a promising start to the festive season.
With six holidays ahead and growing audience support, both films are well positioned to deliver strong runs at the box office. And while 2025’s Diwali may not see record-breaking numbers, the stage is already set for a historic Diwali 2026, when Ramayana is expected to release, a film that many believe could shatter every existing box office record.
