Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar Makers Eye Joint Broadcast Deal for Both Parts to Maximise Revenue - Report

Following the massive success of Dhurandhar (2025), director Aditya Dhar and the makers are reportedly planning a strategic move to sell the broadcast rights of both instalments together, a decision trade experts believe could significantly maximise revenues.

According to a report by mid-day, the makers are leveraging the unprecedented buzz around Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge to secure a combined satellite and television deal for both parts of the franchise  even before the sequel’s theatrical release.

Joint Broadcast Rights in the Works

Earlier this month, the producers issued a public notice announcing that they are in the process of licensing exclusive linear transmission and retransmission rights across satellite television, DTH, IPTV, cable, and other broadcast platforms. What stands out is that the rights are being negotiated as a package for both films, a move rarely seen in modern franchises.

The notice, published in trade magazine Complete Cinema, stated that the broadcast license for Dhurandhar (Part 1) will commence from March 31. Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, which is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19, will arrive on television 117 days after its theatrical release  roughly a four-month window.

A source quoted by mid-day revealed,

“Aditya Dhar and Jio Studios have begun discussions with satellite channels. While the first part will start airing from March 31, the second instalment will reach TV screens only after a gap of nearly four months. The team is currently finalising worldwide transmission deals, excluding China, Taiwan, and Macau.”

Trade Experts Call It a Smart Move

The trade industry views this bundled approach as a shrewd business strategy that underlines the makers’ confidence in the sequel.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh told mid-day,

“If true, it’s a practical decision. In the past, producers have clubbed multiple projects to secure better value. Since Dhurandhar has broken several records, the makers can demand a premium. While there were losses in the UAE due to the ban, the strong international business helped cover that ground.”

Echoing similar sentiments, trade analyst Atul Mohan added,

“A package deal works in the makers’ favour. Everyone across the industry is talking about Dhurandhar, and that kind of buzz translates into strong valuation.”

Confidence in the Dhurandhar Franchise

With Dhurandhar emerging as one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time and Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge already generating massive anticipation, the decision to negotiate a joint broadcast deal reflects strong confidence in the franchise’s long-term value.

If the deal materialises as expected, it could set a new benchmark for satellite and television rights in the post-theatrical ecosystem.
