Alpha Clocks 9 Crore on Day 1, Needs Big Weekend for Respectable Run

Alpha has opened to an early estimate of 9 crore on day one, marking a decent start at the box office. The spy actioner led by Sharvari and Bobby Deol registered steady footfalls through the day after beginning with 7 to 8 percent occupancy in morning shows. The numbers show clear interest among urban audiences, especially in multiplexes where advance bookings gave it a solid push.

While 9 crore is a respectable opening for a female-led action film, the number looks modest when weighed against the film’s reported high budget and mounting costs. Trade circles point out that Alpha was mounted on a large scale with extensive action and international schedules, which means the recovery road is longer. A 9 crore start keeps it in the game but does not give it the cushion a big-budget film usually expects on day one.

The real task now begins over the weekend. With director Shiv Rawail’s stylish presentation and Sharvari’s performance earning early praise, the film has a chance to grow if word of mouth stays strong. Saturday and Sunday will need to show a healthy jump of at least 40 to 50 percent to put Alpha in a comfortable position heading into the weekdays. Without that surge, sustaining at this level will be tough given the costs involved.

For now, Alpha has passed the first test with a decent opening, but the next two days are critical. The film needs momentum and strong family audience turnout to convert this start into a respectable lifetime total. If weekend growth kicks in, Alpha can still emerge as a successful venture. All eyes are now on Saturday’s trend to see if the film can shift gears.
