“Not Your Typical Gangster Film”: Yash Teases Psychological Twist in Toxic, Says It Goes Beyond Action

Yash Says Toxic Is More Than a Gangster Film, Promises Psychological Depth and Global Scale

Actor Yash has shed light on his upcoming film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups, describing it as a project that moves beyond the conventions of a typical action-driven gangster drama. Speaking at CinemaCon 2026, the actor emphasised that the film is designed to offer far more depth than what meets the eye.

In an interaction with Fandango, Yash explained that Toxic may appear like a conventional gangster film at first glance, but carries a layered narrative beneath its surface. “It’s not a typical action-gangster story,” he said, adding that while the film has the scale and appeal of a commercial entertainer, it also explores “deep psychology” and “interesting aspects of human life.”

The actor noted that the film aims to present its central character in a more nuanced manner, moving away from one-dimensional portrayals often associated with the genre. He described the storytelling approach as one that balances action with emotional and psychological depth, offering audiences a more immersive experience.

Yash also revealed that Toxic has been shot in English alongside its primary version, underlining its ambition to connect with a global audience. “For the first time, we have shot that film in English as well,” he said, positioning the project within the evolving landscape of Indian cinema, which is increasingly reaching viewers beyond linguistic and regional boundaries.

Crediting director Geetu Mohandas for shaping the film’s vision, Yash said the project offers “a very unique way to present a dark character.” He added that the collaboration has been creatively fulfilling, with the film aiming to be both a visual spectacle and a story that leaves a psychological impact on viewers.

Reflecting on the broader shift in Indian cinema, Yash pointed out that the rise of pan-India storytelling and dubbing has helped bridge cultural gaps, allowing films to resonate across diverse audiences. He suggested that Toxic is part of this new phase — rooted in Indian sensibilities, yet designed with a global outlook.

With its blend of scale, style, and substance, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups is shaping up to be a film that seeks to redefine the gangster genre while offering a more layered cinematic experience.
