Shahid Kapoor’s Next With Amit Sharma to Be Indian Remake of Italian Body-Swap Comedy Husband & Wife
After the success of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Shahid Kapoor is once again stepping into the world of quirky romantic entertainers. The actor has teamed up with Badhaai Ho and Maidaan director Amit Sharma for an upcoming untitled film, which is now reported to be an official adaptation of the 2017 Italian sci-fi comedy Moglie e marito (Husband & Wife).
The original Italian film revolved around a married couple on the verge of divorce who unexpectedly swap bodies after a scientific experiment goes wrong. What follows is a hilarious yet emotional journey where both partners are forced to experience each other’s struggles, routines, and emotional realities firsthand.
Directed by Simone Godano, the original starred Pierfrancesco Favino and Kasia Smutniak and received positive reviews for balancing comedy with heartfelt storytelling.
As reported by Variety India, Amit Sharma has reimagined the concept for Indian audiences with a blend of humor, emotions, and family drama. The adaptation is expected to carry the same fun sci-fi flavor that audiences enjoyed in Shahid Kapoor’s 2024 hit Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, while offering a fresh take on relationships and marriage.
While Shahid Kapoor has officially signed the project, the female lead is still being finalized. Reports suggest that Rashmika Mandanna was initially approached, but scheduling conflicts prevented things from moving forward. The makers are now reportedly in discussions with Kiara Advani and Janhvi Kapoor for the role. If finalized, Janhvi’s casting would mark her first-ever on-screen pairing with Shahid Kapoor.
The untitled film is being backed by Jio Studios along with producer Sunir Kheterpal under The Vermilion World banner. Production is expected to begin in late 2026, with the makers eyeing a mid-2027 theatrical release.
Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor is currently busy shooting Season 2 of Farzi alongside Vijay Sethupathi and Kay Kay Menon. He will also next be seen in Cocktail 2 alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon.
