When Kajol First Met Shah Rukh Khan & He Told Her To “Keep Quiet” – The Funny Story Behind Bollywood’s Most Iconic Friendship
Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan may be one of Bollywood’s most loved on-screen pairs today, but their first meeting was nothing like the warm bond fans imagine. Long before they created magic in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, the duo actually started off with an awkward and hilarious moment on the sets of Baazigar. Kajol once spoke about this memory, and the story is still one of the funniest insights into how their legendary friendship began.
Kajol Shared the Story of Their First Interaction
In a chat with Radio Nasha, Kajol recalled that she was barely 17 when she met Shah Rukh Khan for the first time. She was still a book-loving teenager who didn’t think twice about working on New Year’s Day. The Baazigar team had a shoot scheduled for January 1 because SRK believed that starting the year with work keeps the momentum going.
Kajol laughed about how almost everyone on set was sleepy and tired after New Year celebrations. But she had enjoyed a full night’s rest and arrived cheerful and energetic while the whole unit struggled to stay awake.
Kajol Thought Shah Rukh Khan Was Too Serious
Kajol admitted she loved talking to people around her and silence was never her style. Whether it was the cameraman, makeup artist or hairdresser, she was happily chatting with everyone. Her voice carried across the set, and she kept the atmosphere lively.
At the same time, Shah Rukh Khan was quietly sitting with his script, wearing glasses and reading his lines. Seeing him so serious and focused, Kajol jokingly called him khadoos, wondering why he wasn’t interacting with anyone.
The Moment When SRK Told Kajol To Keep Quiet
Kajol said she finally walked up to SRK and asked him why he was so quiet and distant. She told him he should at least speak a little instead of staying in his own zone.
That’s when SRK, tired and trying to memorize his lines, politely but firmly told her, “Can you please keep quiet for a minute. Someone stop her from talking.”
Kajol remembered feeling shocked and thinking it was rude at the time because she was only trying to be friendly.
But that funny, slightly awkward moment eventually became the beginning of one of Bollywood’s strongest friendships. Kajol joked that SRK barely remembered any of it later and would simply say that she was a blur during those early days.
A Duo That Went On To Create History
After Baazigar, Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan went on to deliver some of Indian cinema’s biggest hits together including My Name Is Khan, Karan Arjun, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and more. Their chemistry remains unmatched, and this memorable first meeting only adds charm to their journey.
