Box Office Preview This Week: Dhurandhar Targets a Good Start Amid Showcase Clash With Tere Ishk Mein; Akhanda Gets Limited Postponed.
5th December i.e. today is set to witness one of the biggest releases of the season as Dhurandhar arrives in cinemas nationwide. Backed by Jio Studios and mounted on a massive scale, the film is carrying good buzz and healthy pre-release traction.
Alongside Dhurandhar, Akhanda is also hitting theatres, though with very limited showcasing. Meanwhile, last week’s successful release Tere Ishk Mein continues to perform strongly and remains Dhurandhar’s main competitor in terms of shows and screen share.
Dhurandhar Preview:
Dhurandhar is releasing with around 4000 screens and a strong national presence. The film faced a week-long tussle for screen allocation with Tere Ishk Mein, which has been doing excellent business since its opening weekend. Both distributors- Jio Studios (Dhurandhar) and AA Films (Tere Ishk Mein)- pushed aggressively for favourable show ratios.
Initially, Dhurandhar demanded an 80:20 split while Tere Ishk Mein targeted a 60:40 ratio. After negotiations, the national showcasing has settled at an overall 68:32 ratio in favour of Dhurandhar.
- In territories where Tere Ishk Mein has not performed well, Dhurandhar has secured an 85:15 share.
- In areas where Tere Ishk Mein continues to remain strong, the showcasing has been adjusted to 40:60 in its favour.
- Pan-India, however, the tilt remains clearly towards Dhurandhar with 68% of shows.
On the advance booking front, Dhurandhar has crossed 1,05,000 tickets in national chains, and the response is still overwhelming considering the scale and stature of the film. The movie is all set to open in the 18-20 crore range, and spot bookings will decide how much more it can add over the 20 crore mark. However, this is still considered on the lower side because many expected a 30+ crore opening when the teaser arrived.
The film’s real test will begin post the first show as word of mouth will determine whether it can convert the wide showcasing into big weekend numbers.
Tere Ishk Mein – A Good Holdover
Tere Ishk Mein remains a strong contender even in its second week and is now playing on approximately 1800 screens. Despite the heavy incoming competition from Dhurandhar, the film has maintained consistent footfalls across major centres.
Its stronghold in certain regions forced distributors to adjust showcasing in its favour, where it continues to perform exceptionally. Though screens have reduced, the film still poses real competition in select territories and is expected to contribute respectable numbers over the weekend.
Overall Weekend Insight:
The coming weekend will be dominated by Dhurandhar, backed by its wide showcasing and good advances. The film is positioned for a healthy start and could go higher depending on audience reception.
Tere Ishk Mein will continue its impressive run in pockets where it has built a strong base, while Akhanda is likely to stay limited unless content surprises.
