Bollywood’s Quiet Reaction to Dhurandhar: Why Is the Loudest Applause Coming from the South?

Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar The Revenge is not just a hit film anymore. It has turned into a full-blown phenomenon. In just 13 days, the film has stormed past 1400 crore worldwide, rewriting what was thought possible for a Hindi film without overseas boosts like China. Theatres are packed, social media is flooded, and audiences across India are celebrating it like an event.

But here comes the real question that everyone is asking now ? If the film is this big, why does Bollywood feel so quiet about it ?

A Historic Success That No One Can Ignore !

Let’s first understand the scale. Dhurandhar The Revenge is now among the biggest Indian films ever and is still running strong. From metros to small towns, from single screens to multiplexes, the film has connected everywhere. It has become a talking point in households, offices, and online platforms.

Many are even comparing its impact to legendary films like Sholay in terms of cultural wave. That says a lot about how deeply it has entered public conversation. And yet, inside its own industry, the noise feels surprisingly low.

South Industry Shows Massive Love !

While Bollywood seems reserved, the South film industry has gone all out in celebrating the film.

Big names like S. S. Rajamouli and Rajinikanth have openly praised the film. Rajamouli appreciated Ranveer Singh’s performance in detail, while Rajinikanth reportedly called Aditya Dhar a master of box office storytelling. It doesn’t stop there. Stars like Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu, Ram Charan, Nagarjuna and Kajal Aggarwal have also publicly appreciated the film.

And this support is not just words. The film is performing brilliantly in southern states as well, crossing massive numbers and proving that content can break language barriers. So the question becomes even bigger- Why is the South so vocal, and Bollywood so reserved.

Bollywood’s Noticeable Silence !

It is not like there is zero appreciation from Hindi film industry. A few names like Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt and Akshay Kumar have shown support.

But where are the biggest voices

Why hasn’t Shah Rukh Khan reacted yet, Why is Salman Khan silent, Why Ajay Devgn not responded yet, Why did Aamir Khan admit he hasn’t even watched it yet. 

For an industry that usually celebrates every success loudly on social media, this feels unusual. Normally, even moderate hits receive dozens of congratulatory posts. Here we are talking about a historic blockbuster, yet the reaction feels limited. Is this just coincidence..Or is there something deeper. 

Industry Voices Raise Concerns !

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar openly questioned this silence. According to him, when one film succeeds, it helps the entire industry from actors to technicians. So why not celebrate it openly.  On the other hand, Ram Gopal Varma suggested that this could be due to insecurity or even shock at the film’s massive success. Are these strong words… Or uncomfortable truths. 

Possible Reasons Behind the Silence !

There are a few theories being discussed. 

• Ideological Sensitivity-  Some critics have labelled Dhurandhar The Revenge as politically leaning or propaganda. Many Bollywood celebrities prefer to stay away from anything that can trigger controversy. Silence, in such cases, becomes the safest option.
• Competitive Mindset-  Big success stories can sometimes create discomfort. When a film breaks all records, it resets benchmarks. Not everyone may be comfortable reacting instantly.
• Private Appreciation- Another argument is that many celebrities like Ajay Devgn may have congratulated the team privately through messages or calls. Not everything needs to be public. But then again, Bollywood has always been very public about such celebrations. 

A Shift in Industry Culture! 

What makes this situation even more interesting is the contrast.

For years, Bollywood openly praised South films like Baahubali, RRR, and KGF. Now, when a Hindi film is receiving that kind of love from the South, the response is not equally loud from its own home industry.

Is this a turning point…. Is Bollywood becoming more cautious….Or is this just a temporary phase.

Despite the silence, one thing is clear. Dhurandhar The Revenge does not need validation anymore. 

The audience has already given its verdict. The box office numbers, the repeat value, the nationwide craze everything speaks loudly.

But the curiosity remains… Why is the loudest applause coming from outside Bollywood….And why is the home ground not echoing the same energy…. Maybe the answers will come with time…Or maybe this silence itself will become part of the film’s legacy… Because sometimes, what is not said becomes the biggest story of all.
