Indian Cinema on the Rise as Tanvi The Great and Kantara Chapter 1 Make Waves in the Oscar Race

Indian cinema is enjoying a rare and exciting moment on the global stage as the Oscar conversation grows stronger with every passing week. The 98th Academy Awards season has brought uplifting news, with two Indian films, Tanvi The Great and Kantara A Legend Chapter 1, officially stepping into the international spotlight.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has confirmed a list of 201 feature films that have met all eligibility criteria for Best Picture consideration. The presence of Indian titles on this list underlines how stories rooted in Indian culture, emotion, and tradition are now resonating far beyond domestic audiences.

Tanvi The Great stands out as a deeply moving and heartfelt film. Directed by Anupam Kher, the movie tells a powerful story through the eyes of Tanvi Raina, portrayed with warmth and sincerity by Shubhangi. Inspired by her late father’s service in the Indian Army, Tanvi’s journey is filled with courage, hope and determination. The film handles themes of autism and resilience with great sensitivity, making it an emotional experience that connects instantly with viewers across age and geography. It is a story that celebrates human spirit in its purest form.

On a completely different yet equally powerful scale, Kantara A Legend Chapter 1 showcases the grandeur and depth of Indian storytelling. Produced by Hombale Films and led by Rishab Shetty, the film dives into the ancient world of Daiva worship in Tulunadu. Set against a historical backdrop that traces its roots to the Kadamba dynasty, the film blends mythology, tradition, and history with striking intensity. Rishab Shetty’s portrayal of Berme, the fierce protector of the forest and its people, adds strength and soul to this epic narrative, making it a cinematic experience that commands global attention.

Adding to this wave of success, Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound has already secured a place among the top fifteen shortlisted films in the International Feature Film category. This collective progress reflects a growing appreciation for Indian films that are authentic, rooted and fearless in their storytelling.

Earlier in November 2025, the Academy announced 317 eligible films across multiple categories including Documentary Feature, Animated Feature, and International Feature Film. With the final nominations set to be revealed on January 22, anticipation is at an all time high within the global film community.

Tanvi The Great is produced by Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with NFDC, with worldwide distribution managed by Excel Entertainment and AA Films. Strong creative vision combined with experienced backing has helped the film reach international audiences with confidence.

With films like Tanvi The Great and Kantara A Legend Chapter 1 making waves at the Oscars, Indian cinema is proving that its stories are universal in emotion and grand in vision. This year is shaping up to be a proud chapter, as Indian films stand tall and speak loudly on the world’s most prestigious cinematic platform.
