Aryan Khan to Direct Shah Rukh Khan in a Feature Film; Project Reportedly Set to Go on Floors in 2027

According to reports, Aryan Khan plans to direct his superstar father, Shah Rukh Khan, in a full-fledged feature film that is expected to begin production in 2027. However, before this much-anticipated collaboration, Aryan aims to deliver a theatrical success with his upcoming second project.

A source revealed that Aryan intends to “earn the opportunity through merit” and that the father-son duo has already finalised the core idea for their collaboration.

As per a recent Pinkvilla report, Aryan is preparing to direct Shah Rukh Khan in what will be his third directorial venture. Before that, the 27-year-old filmmaker is focusing on his second film — a full-length feature that will mark his theatrical debut. Once he completes that project, Aryan plans to move on to the film featuring his father.

Aryan Khan’s Feature Film to Star SRK in the Lead

A source close to the project shared, “Aryan wants to deliver a theatrical success and prove himself as a filmmaker before taking on the challenge of directing his superstar father, Shah Rukh Khan.”

Describing Aryan’s plan, the source added, “His idea is to earn that opportunity through merit and let his work speak for itself. If all goes as planned, Aryan’s third directorial will feature SRK in the lead. The father-son duo has already locked the core idea, but the collaboration is expected to take shape only in 2027. For now, Aryan is focused on completing the script of his second feature, which will soon enter the casting stage.”

Earlier, during an Ask Me Anything session with fans, Shah Rukh Khan was asked, “Can we see your son directing you in a full-fledged movie?” To this, King Khan replied with his trademark wit, “If he can afford me! And my tantrums.”

Recent Controversy Surrounding Aryan Khan’s Series

While Aryan Khan’s debut show The Ba**ds of Bollywood* has received widespread attention, it has also sparked some controversy for its portrayal of the film industry.

Actor and producer Vivek Vaswani, a former close friend of Shah Rukh Khan, expressed his disappointment in an interview with Radio Nasha Official. He said, “When Shah Rukh came into the industry, the amount of love and respect that Aziz Mirza and Nirmala gave him — and that my mother and I, along with Saeed Mirza, gave him — was immense. Everyone treated him with affection and warmth. So when did he come to the conclusion that Bollywood is a gutter and everyone in it is bad? He was one of the few who was treated with kid gloves as a complete outsider.”

On the Work Front

On the professional front, Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film’s first look was unveiled recently, coinciding with the superstar’s 60th birthday.
