Salman Khan’s ‘Battle of Galwan’ Retitled to ‘Maatrubhumi’; Anti-China Elements Reportedly Toned Down
In a surprising development, Salman Khan has officially announced that his upcoming war drama Battle of Galwan has been retitled to Maatrubhumi. The actor shared the new poster on social media with the tagline “May War Rest In Peace,” confirming the change and generating significant buzz around the project.
The film, which was initially based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes between Indian and Chinese forces, is now said to have undergone major creative changes. According to reports, the makers have reworked the narrative to tone down the film’s overt anti-China stance and make the story more universally accessible and emotionally driven.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films, Maatrubhumi features Salman Khan in the role of an Indian Army Colonel. The film aims to portray themes of courage, sacrifice, and resilience, while also incorporating a strong emotional core involving relationships and personal struggles.
Reports suggest that the changes include significant rewrites and reshoots, with the conflict now being partially fictionalised. This shift is expected to bring a more nuanced and balanced perspective to the narrative, focusing not just on the intensity of war but also on the human emotions surrounding it. Additionally, the film is said to explore a deeper dynamic between Salman Khan and co-star Chitrangda Singh.
The project had earlier drawn attention internationally, with some foreign media outlets criticizing its portrayal of the Galwan conflict. The latest changes appear to be an effort to align the film with broader sensitivities while retaining its patriotic essence.
While the film was initially expected to release on April 10, there are now strong indications that the release may be postponed. However, an official confirmation from the makers is still awaited.
The above developments have been reported by Bollywood Hungama, citing sources close to the production.
