Korean producer Hyunwoo Thomas Kim, known for introducing Korean storytelling flair to Indian cinema, is reportedly in talks with Akshay Kumar for a new and exciting project. The film is said to be in the early stages of discussion, with acclaimed filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh having already worked on its draft.

Sujoy Ghosh is known for hits like "Kahaani" and "Badla," showcasing his skill in crafting engaging narratives. Akshay Kumar, a prolific actor and producer, has been involved in numerous successful projects. The combination of these talents, along with Korean producer Hyunwoo Thomas Kim, promises an intriguing film.

Thomas Kim, the man behind titles like Te3n (2016), Blind (2023), Saakini Daakini (2022), and Jaane Jaan (2023), has been steadily building his base in Mumbai for nearly a decade. Speaking to Mid-Day, he shared insights into his journey, how he entered the Indian film industry, and his growing collaborations with leading Bollywood talents.

Kim revealed that he first connected with Indian cinema when Balaji Motion Pictures reached out in 2014 for the remake rights of The Devotion of Suspect X. After being impressed by Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani (2012), he personally flew to Mumbai to meet the team and eventually handed over the remake rights — which later materialized as Jaane Jaan in 2023.

Reflecting on his Indian journey, Kim expressed admiration for Mumbai’s film ecosystem, noting its scale, creative talent, and accessibility. “India has a huge market and great directors and actors. What it lacks is writers of the calibre in Korea. There was a gap to fill,” he shared.

While Kim has faced challenges along the way — including legal disputes over unauthorized remakes like the Kannada film Pushpaka Vimana — he continues to pursue new ventures.

On his latest plans, Kim revealed,

“Just yesterday, I texted Akshay Kumar, who’s in London, asking him to watch a particular film that everyone in the industry knows about. Sujoy [Ghosh] has already worked on the draft. If Akshay agrees, we have a project.”

The collaboration, if it materializes, could mark another major India–Korea crossover project, combining global production expertise with Bollywood star power.
