Digital18 Asserts Ownership of OMG Franchise Amid Oh My Goddess Buzz

Digital18 Asserts Ownership of OMG Franchise Amid Oh My Goddess Buzz.

Digital18 Media Private Limited has issued a public notice asserting its ownership and legal rights over the OMG (Oh My God) franchise, cautioning against any unauthorized development, marketing, or production of derivative works, sequels, prequels, or spin-offs of OMG 2 (2023) without written consent. This move comes amid reports of a new project, Oh My Goddess, starring Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji, slated to go on floors in February 2026.

The notice, published in Atul Mohan's Complete Cinema magazine, emphasizes Digital18's rights as the successor-in-interest to Viacom18 Media Private Limited's studios business, following a court-approved Composite Scheme of Arrangement effective November 14, 2024. This makes Digital18 the joint owner and co-proprietor of all derivative and franchise rights arising from OMG 2, including its goodwill, brand value, and public association.

Digital18 warns that any unauthorized sequel or branding resembling the OMG franchise will be treated as a violation of contractual and proprietary rights under applicable law. The notice explicitly states that no third party is entitled to develop or announce any sequel or derivative work linked to OMG 2 without prior written approval.

Oh My Goddess, reportedly the third installment of the OMG series, is directed by Amit Rai and marks the first on-screen pairing of Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji.
